Providence Stewardship Ministries has carried out a variety of events related to financial, health, and environmental stewardship.
On September 15, 2009, Michael Johnston delivered a lecture to a small group of acupuncturists titled “The Nutrition Transition” in Santa Monica, CA. The attendees were awarded Continuing Education Units.
On February 21, 2009, Providence Stewardship Ministries held a program titled: “Ancient Greece, Early Christianity, and Classic Mediterranean Foods: A Symposium for the Young of Heart.” Approximately 15 Children and adults enjoyed some good food, music, discussion about early Christianity in Ancient Greece. The event was free to the public.
Michael Johnston taught a course to 8 children of the kindergartner age titled Healthy Eating: Biblical and Scientific Principles. The course was offered as part of a home school cooperative and included his son Elisha. The course met on Mondays for one hour over the course of 8 weeks (March 16 to May 4).
On the evening of Tuesday, May 5, 2009, Michael delivered a half an hour lecture to an audience of approximately 75 parents, relatives, and home schooled children as part of a closing ceremony for the Spring Session of the E.C.H.O. Home School Cooperative. Michael’s lecture was titled “Highlights from Healthy Eating for Kindergartners”; he conveyed a sense of the kindergarten years by communicating some of the fun and unexpected events which happened throughout the class.
Michael taught a course titled “Sociology of Health” to 12 college students at Mercyhurst College in Erie, PA in the Spring of 2009. The course met on Tuesdays and Thursdays for 2 hours; it consisted of lectures, active learning activities and class discussion.
On Thursday, May 7, Linda Broach spoke for an hour about how to start a vegetable garden to students in Michael’s Sociology of Health Class. Linda is a master gardner in Erie, PA.
